Gareth Jones - May 2020 While being furloughed from my day job and not leaving the house, I've had a lot of extra time on my hands. So I've increased my May show to 3 hours. And you thought the nation was already suffering enough! So please lock down with me for another packed musical journey. The 1st hour includes new tracks by band names that Peel would've loved, including Unicorn Fart Sugar and Aborted Tortoise, plus this month's 'Secret Songs from the Sixties' features two groovy recent reissues on the Modern Harmonic label. The 2nd hour sees the return of the occasional feature 'Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue' with special guest MJ Hibbett who celebrates the release of his new EP 'People Are All Right' while choosing and introducing 4 songs of his choice. Don't worry, it's been recorded at a safe distance, direct from Mr Hibbett's flat. Then in the 3rd and final hour there's surf guitar tunes galore including The Sinclairs, the new project of Billy Shinbone and Rat Scabies from The Damned. Plus there's a mammoth 40-minute song recorded by French electro-folk duo Grand Veymont and we say "thank you very much to the NHS", courtesy of The Scaffold.

Leo Gilbert - May 2020 Leo has two shows this May. In one there are three pulsating hours Jeffrey Lewis gets things underway with his musical take on the coronavirus pandemic, while Alice Boman tells us that this is where it ends. Sharon Van Etten is beaten down, Wire want us off the beach, Rabbit Island are in the forest, far away and Wayne Phoenix opines that death is pure objectivity. Well away from references to nasty bugs, spring is in the air, with the Yandong Grand Singers calling to their lovers, Blaue Blume getting all lovable, Against All Logic fantasising and KAZU coming from behind. Leo also has three tracks from a fascinating collection called "Dinamplatz pres: 'GOOD, BUT NOT RIGHT'", two more tracks from Porridge Radio, two from Odd Nosdam, another from the brilliant album by Sarah Mary Chadwick and very long songs from Katie Gately and Tengui. Blanck Mass shows up with music from the score to "Calm With Horses" and there are tunes from Craven Faults, Metaman, flies + flies, Moaning, Boojiboy and many others, including an early contender for the Festive Fifty number one slot by CLT DRP. For his second show Leo couldn't help seeing all kinds of references to the dreaded virus in the songs he picked. Granted, a couple of them - those by Holly Herndon and Axel Boman - he selected precisely because they seem to speak in the voice of the virus itself or one of its victims (as well as being great tunes). But others, like those from March and Beauty and TV Face, just took on all kinds of new shades of meaning when listened to through the filter of self-isolation. To keep himself sane, Leo countered the viral attack with three songs from Nicolas Jaar (one as himself, two as Against All Logic) and songs from all around the world: Iceland (Seabear), Holland (YIN YIN), Mexico (Edgar Mondragón), Peru (Ranil) and lots and lots of other countries besides. He also has two from flies + flies, two from Blanck Mass, two from Odd Nosdam and further songs from albums he has been hammering from the likes of Porridge Radio, Katie Gately, Lung Dart, Field Works and Long Arm. Artists who are new to Leo also feature: Horse Lords, Trees Speak and Yogtze. Finally, he has a very special new tune from Aphex Twin.

Mark Whitby - May 2020 Seems to be a lot of anger around in this month's show, all of it perfectly understandable and of course brilliantly channelled. There's a debut session from the wonderfully forthright Digital Resistance for a kick off and they're joined by, among other things, a powerful post-Brexit broadside from Flesh Eating Foundation and the another track from the rage-infused Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs album. Though less acerbic their approach, The Unthanks put the whole things beautifully into historical context. There's a whole load of lockdown-inspired releases, including some brought-forward tunes from Ranil, Japanese dub from Chazbo, a superb track from the latest Shed Collective compilation from Macerator and a fundraiser EP from Jangly Mark & The Benefits. Add to that a new Woog Riots single, a glimpse of the new Madonnatron album and a featured compilation from Berlin's Ekar and another three hours stuck indoors really doesn't seem such a bad prospect after all.

There's electronica from Marc Romboy; Stephan Bodzin; Max Cooper featuring James Yorkston; Andhim and Microtrauma. This month's Educating Elizabeth record is a recent 7" on the Penrose label; while this month's Rocker's Shellac Attack is a 1950 recording of a song that was later a hit for Elvis Presley. As well as little known acts, here's a little known fact: Before Hamilton Bohannon's solo career, he was leader of the Motown Sound - the group that backed many of the biggest Motown acts when they toured in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Sean Hocking - May 2020 Back to my usual 4 hour monthly show this month. Lots of new music, keeping those musicians inside at the moment may not be good for them but it's certainly good for us. By the end of 2020 I'll have to be doing six hour shows just to keep up with it all! This month we have new albums from the magnificent Sir Robert Orange Peel and Texas based Occult Character, both of whom have a very singular take on the world. We wouldn't have it any other way. Lots of new artists we haven't featured before ... Hak Baker, Slitty Wrists, Nudge Squidfish, Crumpsall Riddle & Pozi to name a few. Un-remembered oldies from the likes of Jeffrey Lewis, French 70s outfit the Rob Jo Star Band, Elton Motello & yes another one from the The Bonzo Dog Band, because we can. You'll be surprised to hear a couple of big sixties names in this month's show. Not hard to guess what one of those may be but for the other one we'll give you a clue ... it was covered by Cornershop quite some time ago now and its original demo form is a wonder to behold. Also Unkle Funkle takes his latest inspiration from Al Jarreau! Something new from Shanghai's Gong Gong Gong, a bit of Australiana and that Mick Trouble album from last year is really a corker so another track from that.
