The Nightingales

The Nightingales
Image from Discogs
Powered by Audioscrobbler™The Nightingales refers to at least three artists:

1) A Birmingham, UK post-punk / alternative band (now known as Nightingales), formed in 1979.
2) A soul group (aka Ollie & The Nightingales).
3) A Finnish band.

1) A Birmingham, UK post-punk / alternative band, formed by former members of the city's original punk group The Prefects, in November 1979. With an ever fluctuating line up, based around lyricist/singer Robert Lloyd, the band recorded a bunch of singles, three albums and many radio sessions for John Peel, before it stopped working in 1987.

Following occasional reformations, in 2004 Lloyd re-started The Nightingales. Since then they have released five 7" vinyl singles and three albums (plus two live albums), toured the UK, mainland Europe and USA several times and recorded numerous radio sessions in England and America.

In March 08 the group recorded the album "Insult To Injury" with Jochen Irmler and Andreas Schmid at the Faust Studio in Scheer, Germany. This record, considered the 'Gales best yet, was released in February 2009 on the Klangbad label.
"The Lost Plot" - the follow up album to "Insult" - was again recorded with Irmler in August '09 but the group have since been dropped by Klangbad and so this record is currently without a release plan.

The group will probably be touring Germany and England and hopefully returning to the US in 2011. Either way, they will be recording another album - which will actually get released - before too long.

After several changes since reforming the group's current line up features Lloyd, original Prefects guitarist Alan Apperley, ex Pram drummer Daren 'The Dazzler' Garratt, Andi Schmid on bass and (former teen) guitar sensation Matt Wood plus, whenever possible, gorgeous guitarist Christine Edwards (from Christy & Emily) and, sometimes, some combination of bassoonist Katherine Young, ex Violet Violet drummer Fliss Kitson, Emily Manzo on keyboards and either Sanne Richter or Kate Louise Armitage on vocals.
