Powered by Audioscrobbler™April Harper Grey, known professionally as underscores, is an American musician. Grey grew up in San Francisco. She became interested in composing and recording music at the age of six, and cites Skrillex as an early influence.

underscores, who started releasing music as a teenager on SoundCloud in 2013, gained recognition with the release of her single "Mild Season" in 2015. Over the years, she independently released several EPs, including skin purifying treatment (2018), we never got strawberry cake (2019) and character development! (2020). In 2021, she released her debut studio album fishmonger, which received critical acclaim and featured collaborations with notable artists. She followed it up with the EP boneyard aka fearmonger in December 2021.

In March 2022, The Atlantic praised her for creating music that transcends traditional boundaries. Underscores continued to make waves with her 2023 single "Count of three (You can eat $#@!)", featuring co-production work from Dylan Brady of 100 gecs and other prominent artists.

In 2023, she released the single "Cops and robbers" and announced her second studio album Wallsocket, released on September 22, 2023. She also embarked on her first headlining tour in 2022 and announced her second headlining tour, the Hometown Tour" in 2023, coinciding with the release of Wallsocket.

In 2024, she announced an extended version of Wallsocket, called Wallsocket (Director's Cut), containing 4 new tracks, One of which was released with the announcement of the album, My Guy (Corporate Shuffle), This track, along with Northwest zombie girl, were two of the tracks previously featured in the ARG that originally preceded the original release, and with two new tracks.

Other projects

Grey is a member of several electronic music groups, including the groups six impala and Papaya & Friends, the online music collective FROMTHEHEART (which disbanded in late 2020), and the group curryrice with fellow six impala member Script.

She also releases experimental remixes and original music under the pseudonym Milkfish on the streaming service SoundCloud, and occasionally plays live events as Milkfish through broadcasters such as Boiler Room.
