Emerging from the frostbitten edge of Northern Ontario in 1993, Puddy clawed their way from the basements of Timmins to the sweaty dive bars of Toronto, becoming a fixture in Canada’s indie scene by the late '90s and early 2000s. Renowned for their visceral live shows and razor-sharp melodic hooks, the band hit their stride with Sweetspot (2000), a stoner-punk opus that became a cult classic. The album sold thousands of physical copies, racked up over 60,000 downloads in the pre-Napster Wild West of internet music sharing, and more recently, amassed 150,000 streams on a bootleg YouTube channel—an unexpected resurgence that spawned a reunion and its long-overdue re-release on vinyl.
The album’s success earned Puddy coveted slots opening for the likes of Our Lady Peace, Big Sugar, Danko Jones, Unsane, and J Mascis and The Fog, and crowned them winners of the 97.7 HTZ FM Rocksearch contest—a career-launching platform shared by Finger Eleven, The Trews, and other Canadian rock legends.
After signing to Sony Music Canada in 2002, Puddy’s momentum was abruptly halted when a corporate merger shelved their next album, driving the band into an extended period of uncertainty. By 2012, they went quiet, their legacy sealed as one of Canada’s most underrated exports of the era.
But in 2023, Puddy roared back to life. With a string of new singles, sold-out club shows, and a festival slot alongside Danko Jones, Buckcherry, and Live, the band reclaimed their status as one of Canada’s most electrifying acts. Their highly anticipated new album, Demagogo (2025), dives fist-first into themes of loss, grief, and the yearning for familiarity—delivered with Puddy’s signature blend of progressive, arpeggiated riffing and feral, feedback-soaked chaos. Co-produced by Andy Curran (Envy of None, Coney Hatch, Rush) and mixed by Vic Florencia (Danko Jones, Blue Rodeo), the album represents a band at the peak of its creative powers.
A testament to their DIY roots and love of analog, Demagogo isn’t just available on vinyl and cassette—it’s also pressed on bespoke, hand-assembled 8-track tapes. As the band puts it, “If you can’t beat ’em… LUDDITE!”

Puddy’s live performances remain the stuff of legend: a tightrope walk between technical mastery and total chaos. Their shows oscillate between surgically precise riffing and explosive, anarchic breakdowns, all tethered by their unwavering commitment to soaring, hook-laden melodies. As Andy Curran so eloquenty summarzed: "This band is like a high speed train that could fly off the tracks at any moment -- but never does ! An amazing white knuckle ride"
The band’s January 2025 album release party at Toronto’s legendary Bovine Sex Club is just the beginning of their next chapter. With plans for headlining shows in Timmins and Toronto, summer festival appearances, and a fourth LP (codenamed "Powerhoser") already in the works, Puddy is proving that some comebacks aren’t just worth the wait—they’re worth turning up to 12.
