Melissa E. Logan grew up in Upstate New York (and a few years in Vienna), attended Waldorf School and studied art in Utica, New York before moving to Munich Germany where she studied painting at the Akadamie.

Logan was interested in collaborative practice and self organization, she curated an exhibition of fellow students with whom she founded the group Chicks on Speed, a Multimodal collective inspired by The Situationist International, GI, Fluxus, Bill Drummond, cross polinating music, performance, new media, fashion and design.
