Melbourne-based artist, composer & producer Maxine Gillon has made a name for herself with her lush expansive songs that introject the energy and attitudes of the rich countercultural history of alternative music into a contemporary eclectic form, devoid of any genre constraints or limitations. Snappy beats, gutter intellectual lyricism, interlocking melodic layers & a complete dedication to the songwriting form.
Her third EP ‘Ultra Lounge' was released in late 2022 to critical acclaim. Across six tracks, it straddles a balance between driving and catchy rock numbers and more introspective ballads, retaining the same lush and layered instrumentation throughout. It was mixed and mastered by Wade Keighran (ELVIS (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), Wolf & Cub). It also features guest vocals from Jonnine Standish (HTRK , Jonnine).
The EP and its accompanying singles garnered national and global airplay on 2ser, fbi, NTS (UK), RRR, KOR Radio, and 4ZZZ. They also garnered press features on US-based website Post-punk.com, Backseat Mafia, 2Ser, Demure Mag & AMNplify.
Born in Sydney and having cut her teeth in the Sydney music scene, she has released two eps, “Lips In Front Of Your Teeth” and “The Six Strings of Sappho”; the latter featuring Lindy Morrison from The Go-Betweens on drums.
She formerly played lead guitar in Sydney-based post-punk band Second Idol, whose achievements during her tenure include a crowd-funded vinyl debut EP release, sold-out headliners and support slots with Baxter Dury (UK), Jen Cloher, The Goon Sax and Wolf & Cub.
