Biography: If 'The Undiluted Sonic Excellence of Mister Gareth Main' sounds like a pretentious DJ moniker, it's probably a sign that proud northerner Gareth Main has been living in London for too long.
Raised in Castleford, West Yorkshire and determined to mention that fact at any point, Gareth found John Peel's death to be something of a wake-up call that more needed to be done to promote and support independent artists who were producing the music that got people - however few in number - excited about alternative tunes. Having been introduced to a multitude of weird and wonderful artists by Peel - from Bearsuit to Maher Shalal Hash Baz to Shitmat - Gareth started alternative indie mag Bearded in 2007 to wide acclaim, modest sales and a distribution deal that saw it in over 1,000 shops (WHSmith, Borders and various supermarkets included).
Since Bearded moved online and out of the shops (and now continuing at beardedmagazine.com without his direct involvement), Gareth moved to DJing and podcasts, founding and co-hosting the imaginatively-titled Independent Music Podcast with London promoter and DJ Anthony Chalmers of God Don't Like It, and getting involved in advising and supporting music editorial ventures on and offline.
As far as music taste goes, Gareth's favourite labels are Trunk and Finders Keepers, but honourable mentions will go out on the show to hundreds of other labels who are slaving to bring out interesting and innovative records from across the globe.
