Regarding Dandelion listener's decision to vote Arcade Fire in at number 21 in the Festive 50 (with my personal favourite record of the year), it's worth noting that they have featured previously in the chart, netting 2 entries in 2007 and one in 2005). Although, much like Andrew Morrison, I must also confess I didn't particularly care for them until this record was released, either, it's clear that despite their globe-straddling status they ARE an act suited to Dandelion.

re: "angry young man" what version was that you played in the FF50?

The played FF50 version goes "i used to think that tomorrow would last now my future is all in my past"

whilst

rocker session version goes "she was the most quiet girl you could meet now she plays to a rock n roll beat"

album version goes "i used to sit in confusion and cry now i laugh but i still don't know why".

Admin reply: The 2013 Short Stories album 'Send My Love To Everyone' contains two versions of 'Angry Young Man' - A full version and a shortened version. It was the full version that Pete played in the F50 show.

Just listening to Rockers pick of the year. Is he taking the p***? A bloody novelty record. No wonder Marcelle and Paul left. When does this bloody track end?
Ah! At last it's finally finished.

Admin reply: Hello Gary,

A Happy Christmas to you too!

Tastes vary - what did you think of the track that immediately followed it - by Sura Susso & Pete Josef from an exclusive recording of a live set that Mark Cunliffe chose or the one after that from Pissed Jeans that was selected by Yank Sizzler?
There are not many stations with that variety in the first 20 minutes of a show?

@Pete Jackson

Does anyone else think Wooden Shjips - Ghouls sounds like Stereolab covering Jesus and Mary Chain - Living End?

and by that I mean awesome

Fully agree with what Guy Manchester says. Marcelle and Paul to me are/were closest to capturing what Peel was all about (except for the FF). And with Rocker playing the Wedding Present in the background, I would insist that despite the occasional breath of fresh air, the station runs the risks of being run by traditionalists, whether statistics make that "UK Indie" or not (which was a placeholder anyway).

Admin reply: We will not be responding to each point raised via the guestbook on this topic - since the reasons behind what has happened are not as simple as described and are more than musical choices.

Elsewhere we have pointed out that there are other places where the DJs can still be heard. We have also played out Marcelle's last show as recorded.

If listeners want to vote with their feet / ears and go elsewhere that would be a shame. Before you do it why not get in touch with some of the DJs and tell them what you like or dislike about their shows and if you have some particular artists that you would like to recommend then include that as well.

If you do not want to listen the the Festive 50 ... then don't! It is consistently the most listened to show of the year and our server usually hits maximum limits during it and is a driver to having more people listen to the shows around it ... so having a few people who tune out during it and either listen to shows on MixCloud or somewhere else or go off and do something else would actually help!

Really sad to hear that DJ Marcelle's leaving the station. There wasn't a show of hers that passed by when I didn't hear something amazing that I'd never heard the like of before and in that she is unique among the stations DJs (bar Paul who I'm also sad to hear is leaving for now.)

All the DJs on Dandelion seem to work together and as a whole, come close to mimicking the spirit of Peel, but only Marcelle locked into that side of Peel that really reached into the unfamiliar and, on many occasions, the uncomfortable, and regularly brought us the totally out of the ordinary.

Also, as someone who used to grind his teeth in irritation year after year as Peel continued compiling the festive 50, I especially found her caustic asides about Dandelions continuing with the tradition refreshing and, I might add, hysterical!

I'd advise anyone who feels similar affection for Marcelle to check out her website (anothernicemess.com) and to subscribe to her weekly podcasts.

72 consecutive months from Mark Cunliffe.

Happy 6th anniversary.

Can't mix for toffee but picks out some real gems that put paid to the white boy guitar strum myth talked about here. BTW Mark, you are allowed a holiday you know
