Those Unfortunates

Powered by Audioscrobbler™Those Unfortunates are an indie four piece from London, formed in January 2013.

The band met through a shared love of cult novelist BS Johnson’s work, and they took their name from his 1969 “Book in a box”: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unfortunates). Their sound has been compared to bands including The Kinks and Television Personalities.

They play gigs at a variety of unlikely venues, ranging from the window of a clothes shop in Shoreditch, to a cider farm in Devon, to an abandoned railway station in East Germany.

In January 2014, the group took over the C16th Old St Mary’s Church in Stoke Newington to curate a one day festival of film, literature, music and visual art celebrating forgotten and unfashionable London, entitled ‘UnLondon’ (www.unlondon.org).

Three cassette-only EPs, entitled ‘The Unfortunates . . . are’, ‘Those Men’, and ‘For Boys With One Track Minds’ were released in July 2013, January and August 2014 respectively. Their debut 7” single, ‘Arthur Lowe’ is set for release in January 2015.
