The Soft Machine are a duplicate name for British psych/progressive band Soft Machine. The band used the definite article for their first two records, The Soft Machine and Volume Two, then dropped it for the duration of their career.

The posthumous live album, Kings of Canterbury, among others of its ilk, revives the definite article.
