The Phantom Light

The Phantom Light

Powered by Audioscrobbler™Born in October 2009, The Phantom Light are a ambient/shoegaze/dream pop band from Swansea & Llanelli South Wales. The members are Anthony Jones (vox, synths), Jason Jones (guitars), Matty James (drums, percussion. With 3 additional members for live shows.

Heavily influenced by layers upon layers of sounds and effects and bands such as Mono, Explosions in the sky, Animal Collective, Slowdive, Hammock, Radiohead.

The band were formed immediately after the split of Anthony and Mattys previous band Union Sundown. They then hooked up with Jason Jones after finding an ad on the internet.

The name comes from a 1935 film called The Phantom Light following the disappearance of two lighthouse keepers stationed on the desolate coast of Wales.

After spending the first few months collaborating with ideas over the internet the band knocked up a 2 track demo which can be heard here: www.myspace.com/thephantomlight which is already hitting the radio airwaves Wales and the rest of the world with radio play on BBC Radio Wales with Adam Walton, BBC Radio 1 Wales with Bethan Elfyn, Nation Radio, The Volts Show, WZBC Flyweight Radio Show (Boston, USA), Radio Tircoed and in March the John Peel tribute Radio Station Dandelion Radio.

At the end of February the band, out of 1600 entrants, made the final 12 of the Emerging Talent Contest to play in front of Michael & Emily Eavis for a possible place at 2010's 40th Anniversary Glastonbury Festival. The bands were whittled down from 50 - 12 by Emily Eavis, Nick Dewey (who books Pyramid and Park stages among others), Huw Stephens (Radio 1), Paul Rees (Q editor) and Dave Henderson (Queen's Head Stage). This event took place on 27th March.
