The Intima

The Intima

Powered by Audioscrobbler™The Intima, formed in 1999, is a four-piece band from Portland, Oregon and Olympia, Washington, featuring Alex on drums, Themba on bass, Nora on violin and some vocals, and Andrew on guitar and most vocals. Suspicious of kitsch, nostalgia, and the cooptive nature of capital, they will tease you with a skittering tension and challenge you with a critical vision.

In the autumn of 2000, The Intima released their first EP, No Lullaby For Sleep, on San Francisco's ZUM Records. This 7-track cd, recorded at seattle's Avast! Studio, is nearly sold out and has garnered the group extensive critical praise. Songs like "Under the Cement," "Sediment and Metal Box" mix propulsive rhythms and sharp words into a frantic, angular agglomeration of sound. The Intima have since appeared on compilations by Troubleman Unlimited, Contact Records (Japan), the Portland Mercury weekly paper and have recently released a 7" single on L.A.'s Post Present Medium
.
The band has also kept busy with 2 National tours and 5 West Coast trips as well. In their travels they have played with such respected bands as: Mary Timony, The Mekons, Karate, Erase Errata, Outhud, Calvin Johnson, The Rapture, Lovelife, Ted Leo, q and not u, xbxrx, Tracy and the Plastics, Submission Hold and tons more.

The impact of The Intima's "strong-willed, rough-skinned beauty" is both cerebral and physical; nursing the contradictions between mediated culture and deep politics, these four individuals will engage you and leave you restless.
