tAngerinecAt is a Welsh duo known for their uncompromising fusion of industrial, electronic, dark jazz, spoken word, and folk influences. Originally formed in Ukraine and now based in North Wales, the project brings together Ukrainian-born multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist Zhenia Purpurovsky and British sound designer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Chilton.
The project began in the early 2010s in Kyiv, initially exploring ritualistic folk and experimental sound collage. Early releases such as In the Best Traditions of Celebration (2011), Rise + Decay (2013), and Many Kettles (2014) combined hurdy-gurdy, electronics, and politically charged spoken word. Their 2016 record H.R.I. expanded this foundation with darker electronics and industrial textures, while GLASS (2022) marked a turning point toward cinematic production and wider acclaim — topping Bandcamp’s experimental charts and earning a place in Louder Than War’s Top 100 Albums of the Year.
On May 9 2025, tAngerinecAt released their sixth studio album, GRIEF, continuing their politically engaged exploration of trauma, memory, and resilience through dense, emotionally charged soundscapes.
Across more than a decade of activity, tAngerinecAt has toured in over fifteen countries and performed at festivals including Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Tallinn Music Week, Menuo Joudaragis, Hradby Samoty, and Focus Wales. In 2024, they toured Germany and Czechia with Project Pitchfork.
Their work remains deeply anti-war, anti-fascist, and politically engaged — interweaving cultural symbolism, queer identity, and social critique within immersive sonic ritual.
