Powered by Audioscrobbler™Tomas Roels, better known to us as TMSV, is one of the most exciting prospects to emerge from Dubstep’s ever-evolving scene in the last few years. In-between juggling the commitments of his Law degree, the young Dutch producer from Utrecht has consistently delivered tough, sub-focussed tracks that demonstrate both his musical aptitude, and his desire to create fresh and forward thinking productions. Tomas draws his inspiration from a wide spectrum of influence and the rugged aesthetics of Jungle in particular can be heard referenced in his music, often dominated by raw bassline energy and effervescent percussion.

After signing his track Subconscious Brain to Rotterdam based label Tube 10 back in 2010, TMSV graced the second release of the fledgling Box Clever imprint, Black Box’s sister label, with Signal and Cold; a critically acclaimed record that highlighted his arrival in the community as a leading purveyor of ocean-deep Dubstep music. Tomas soon returned to the Bristol based label with All It Takes/ Back Off, another release of exceptional quality, finely balancing vividly melodic and thoughtful soundscapes with earth moving sub-frequency pressure.

By this time his beats were being transmitted across the globe via Rinse FM and Radio 1, and regularly causing havoc in the sets of the most respected DJs around, including Mala, Joe Nice, Chef, N-Type, Distance, Skream and Phaeleh. Youngsta in particular had a strong affinity with the sounds TMSV was building; Myth was a staple of Yunx’s Rinse show and live performances, with him opening his legendary DJ sessions with those instantly recognisable quivering flute lines for months on end. After months of fervent anticipation, Myth finally dropped on Box Clever at the end of 2011 backed with the equally sublime Flow, and with more releases confirmed on the label for 2012, we can expect further additions to the already glittering back catalogue.

Tomas is a perfectionist behind the decks and has murdered dancefloors at renowned club nights across Europe, including a memorable UK debut set at Stink Like Sock where he tore the place down with a session consisting of exclusively TMSV productions. With a constantly diversifying focus, he has explored the dubbier side of his music with a series of roots flavoured remixes on Reggae labels Greensleeves, Foundation Sound and Reggae Roast, and reworked Mavado vocals over the now classic Dem A Talk anthem.

2012 has seen Tomas combine forces with a host of exciting talents. His collaboration with DJ Madd, Difference, was another Youngsta favourite and got snapped up by the limited Black Box XXX series, backed with a heavyweight remix by the prolific J:Kenzo, and studio time with Dutch DnB legends June Miller yielded Lost Cause and Ghost Ship, two lethally percussive rollers released on the XXX series shortly after. In recognition of an outstanding couple of years, Tomas has been invited to perform at Outlook festival 2012, where he will be delivering his inimitable style of beats alongside some of the most celebrated musicians, producers and DJs in bass music.
