Svengalisghost

Powered by Audioscrobbler™Lauded for fusing his industrial electronic experiments with revamped Chicago house, Svengalisghost built a following as a DJ on the dance floors of Chicago’s ‘90s loft scene with an arsenal of disco and house before evolving into an eclectic, machine loving producer in search of new sounds. On stage, he’s a wild man, his live vocals growling with reverb as he plays faultless, gritty, quick time techno heaped with addled acidy beats from a dystopian retrofuture. As one half of DJ duo Redlight Disco Systems with PorkChop (SSPS/Nation/Excepter) in the late 90s in New York and Chicago, and known as Below Underground in the mid 2000s (and by day a lighting technician), the artist claims Svengalisghost as yet another evolution in his electronic trajectory. In 2012, Svengalisghost released his debut EP Mind Control on Ron Morelli’s New York label L.I.E.S. (Long Island Electrical Systems) alongside a video directed by house producer Marcus Mixx, followed by the 12 inch Vicious Circle in 2013 and a 2015 untitled EP on L.I.E.S. imprint Russian Torrent Versions. Now based in Paris, his performances, as at Barcelona’s Sónar Festival, the UK’s Simple Things Festival, London’s Fabric and in the Boiler Room, always involve inspired improv moments and elements of surprise.
