Shishamo (stylised as SHISHAMO) is a three-member Japanese rock band that was formed in 2010 in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, while its original members were still in high school. The band began releasing music in 2012. The original lineup consisted of Asako Miyazaki (guitar and vocals), Aya Matsumoto (bass), and Misaki Yoshikawa (drums), who formed the group while participating in their high school’s rock band club.
The members began writing original songs during their second year of high school. In their final year, they won both the first prize and the best vocal prize at a music contest they entered to challenge their musical abilities. During their high school years, the band released a self-produced CD, embarked on a national tour, and hosted the radio program "All Night Nippon R", gaining experience uncommon among high school students. These activities helped the band attract attention from niche audiences across Japan and eventually led to their national debut.
Following their graduation in March, the band spent three months in a recording studio to produce their self-titled debut album "SHISHAMO", which includes 11 tracks characterized by emotional variety, melodic songwriting, and accessible lyrics.
In 2014, bassist Aya Matsumoto left the band and was replaced by Aya Matsuoka.
