Oana Catalina Chitu

Powered by Audioscrobbler™Oana Cătălina Chiţu is an East European Tango singer, from Humulesti, Romania. Her voice is somewhere between Marlene Dietrich and Édith Piaf.

Between 1998 and 2003, she studied classical singing with the opera singer Verena Rein. In 2000, she founded the Balcan band Romença, together with Dejan Jovanovic. Numerous performances with Romença in Berlin and tours through Germany, Austria, Serbia and Romania followed. In April 2007, together with Dejan Jovanovic and Valeriu Cascaval, and supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Berlin, Oana brought her musical and theatrical performance Bucharest Tango. Oana interprets the texts songs of love and written for Romania's now vanished tango stars. The album was released on September 26th 2008 on Asphalt Tango Records
The actual line up of her band is as follows: Alexander Franz, Alexej Wagner (guitar), Anton Slavic (violin), Dejan Jovanovic (accordion), Dimitris Christides (percussion), Oana Cătălina Chiţu (vocals), Valeriu Cascaval (cymbalon), Vladimir Karparov (saxophone, clarinet)
