Nilüfer Yanya (born 11 May 1995) is a British singer, songwriter, and musician. She is the daughter of two visual artists, with her mother of Irish and Barbadian heritage and her father of Turkish descent. Yanya grew up in Chelsea, London, and was exposed to Turkish and classical music at home. She developed an interest in rock music and began playing guitar at the age of 12.
Yanya began her musical career by uploading demos to SoundCloud in 2014. She declined an offer to join a girl group produced by Louis Tomlinson of One Direction, choosing instead to focus on her own music.
Her first EP, "Small Crimes/Keep on Calling," was released in 2016. This was followed by "Plant Feed" in 2017 and "Do You Like Pain?" in 2018. The three EPs were later compiled into "Inside Out" in 2021.
In 2019, Yanya released her debut studio album, "Miss Universe," which received positive reviews from critics, who highlighted her versatility in musical and lyrical styles and the combination of influences including indie rock, soul, jazz, and trip hop. Reviews have described her voice as expressive and adaptable.
On 1–2 July 2022, Yanya performed at Hyde Park before Adele's first live UK concert in five years. Later in 2022, she was the UK opening act for the reformed rock band Roxy Music during their 50th anniversary tour. Yanya also contributed vocals to the Bombay Bicycle Club track "Meditate" on the 2023 album "My Big Day." In May 2025, she was announced as a supporting act for Lorde's upcoming "Ultrasound World Tour."
