Mononoid are Andy Godderis and Igor Shumlyanskiy. Andy, born in Belgium but raised in the Netherlands, started DJ’ing back in 1986 as a hip-hop DJ for the band Utile Connection and grew towards dance in the early 90s. After organizing parties in the Netherlands and performing on many underground locations, he was asked to became a resident DJ for a club in China. Returning to the Netherlands a year later, he continued to perform which eventually lead to him winning the Twix Talent Room in 2001. Andy graduated as an Audio Production Engineer at the AVA in Hilversum and started a production studio — Studio Zeven — where he mixed and mastered a lot of productions for different musicians of all genres. He also performed in several different bands before returning to dance in 2006, when he started working together with Igor.
Russian born Igor was mainly rocking DnB back in the old country. When he moved to the Netherlands he attended Academy Minerva, the School of Fine Arts. But even though he was talented, he realized that he was more interested in music. He had fallen in love with techno ever since he arrived in the Netherlands and because he wanted to understand everything about music he went off to become a Sound Engineer. Fueled by this new knowledge, and combined with his passion for art, photography and the experience he gained being a Sound and Light technician at the Grand Theatre in Groningen, the partnership with Andy was perfect.
They started a techhouse production duo, called Stereo Sandwich, in which they had their first experience producing dance music with each other. After releasing on labels as MBD, Baroque, and Alex Young’s Kraft Records, they soon noticed their sound was evolving. They started experimenting with deeper, more profound productions and realized this new sound had grown too far apart from what they were doing before; this was a whole new project altogether. They took the word ‘Mono’ (as in solo) and the word ‘nooit’ (Dutch for never), basically meaning ‘never alone’ and Mononoid was born.
Mononoid’s music is influenced by producers like Bodzin, Max Cooper, Dominik Eulberg, Ryan Davis, Guy J, Extrawelt, Minilogue, Noisia, Microtrauma, Gui Boratto and Egbert.
In 2011 their music was picked up by Traum Schallplatten, offering them a place in the Traum Family. Soon after they released their first remix for Microtrauma’s “Emilia”, which got great feedback. There latest release is a remix for none other than Max Cooper. Their remix of “Echoes Reality” is nothing less than a trip, with a deep grove and great chorus. In the beginning of 2012 their first own EP will be released on Traum and its promising to cause a landslide!
