Powered by Audioscrobbler™Katie Kim a.k.a Katie Ann Sullivan, was born to working class, Irish parents in London in March 1983. The family moved back to Ireland due to the rising crime rate in London at the time and settled in Waterford. Her childhood was a relatively smooth one, given the economic crisis in Ireland at the time, where for many families times were tough.

While in primary school, Katie kept to herself and retreated into music, where in interviews, she stated she became obsessed with the band "Queen" ( and mourned her idols death incesantly in 1991 at the age of 7!)On her thirteenth birthday her mother bought her an acoustic guitar and taught her three chords, which started her writing her own compositions and only one year on, she was playing live in various small venues around Ireland. Katie states, " I look back on what i was playing now and cringe, but really at fourteen and armed with three chords i really have to appreciate what i was trying to do."
She supported, a now renowned, Damien Rice twice and his interest in her started a local interest in the teenage writer.

Three years later she joined "Gallaxie 500esque" dreampop outfit, "Dae-Kim" as a contributing songwriter, guitarist and vocalist, along with former "Tenspeedracer" drummer Terry Cullen and within a year the band were generating record company interest and touring Europe extensively.

In 2008, Katie left the band amicably, to pursue her solo career and record her debut album of songs that she had been writing between gigs for the past three years.

In November, her debut album "Twelve" was released to critical acclaim in Ireland and a tour followed. This year she has worked with Mike Scott of the Waterboys and most recently, on David Kitts' new album.

Katie Kim is doing a series of live performances with Donal Dineen in Nov/Dec as part of his Fresh Air Festival. see http://freshairfestival.wordpress.com/live for more.
