Powered by Audioscrobbler™Kammerflimmer Kollektief is a band from Karlsruhe that combines elements of improvised noise music or free jazz with electronics, ambient, and contemporary music.

The project was founded in 1996 by Thomas Weber . In 1999 the one-man project became a six-piece band. In the same year their debut album Mäander was released on Payola Records. Over time the band went through several lineup changes and now consists of three members. Since the album Absencen (2005), their records have been released on Staubgold.

Weber’s compositions, initially created mainly electronically in the studio, were mixed with recordings of “real” instruments, with a strong emphasis on improvisation in live performances.

The band’s music is hard to categorize and has been described as “as if William Parker were jamming with Lee Scratch Perry and Velvet Underground… a collision of the world we know with an unknown one.” Their sound is sometimes compared to Bohren & der Club of Gore or The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble and has been associated with dark jazz.

After the release of their fifteenth album, Jazz thing summed up: “For a quarter of a century Kammerflimmer Kollektief has been convincing with fantasy worlds made of jazz improvisation, darkwave, exotica, post- and krautrock as well as noise.”

In 2012 they formed the band The Schwarzenbach together with German writer Dietmar Dath and released the album Farnschiffe.
