Powered by Audioscrobbler™Elastica were an English rock band formed in London in 1992 by guitarist and singer Justine Frischmann and drummer Justin Welch following their departure from Suede. The band’s style was influenced by punk rock, post-punk, and new wave music. Over the course of its existence, Elastica’s lineup changed several times, with Frischmann and Welch remaining as the only consistent members until the band’s dissolution.

The band gained prominence after the release of their debut single, "Stutter," in November 1993, and their subsequent three singles reached the Top 20 of the UK Singles Chart. Their debut album, "Elastica" (1995), achieved immediate success, becoming the fastest-selling debut album in the UK at the time, and also found recognition in the United States, producing the band’s highest-charting US Hot 100 single, "Connection." The band faced controversy over accusations of plagiarism, which were resolved through out-of-court settlements.

Work on a follow-up album was delayed by interpersonal conflicts, lineup changes, and Frischmann’s struggles with heroin addiction in the late 1990s. In 2000, Elastica released their second album, "The Menace," which received less critical and commercial success than their debut. The band eventually disbanded amicably in October 2001 after difficulties in producing material for a third album.
