Double Helix

Double Helix
Image from Discogs
Powered by Audioscrobbler™This page represents to different groups:
1. A rap group from Tampa, Florida
2. An electronica duo from Woodstock, Connecticut
3. A dubstep group from Scotland
4. A rap duo from Colorado
5. A drum&bass producer from Austria.
6. An electronica duo from Guadalajara, Mexico

1. Double Helix represents the very best that Florida and the Tampa Bay area has to offer in hip hop music. The crew mixes the traditional elements of acts like the Native Tongues, Gang Starr, and Dilated Peoples with a conscious, soulful vibe that resonates with both the deepest hip hop heads and casual music lovers.

2. Double Helix is also a group of two (hence "double") guys who discovered a love of making music at high school in Woodstock, CT. Tom Stoup and Will Johnson used Johnson's father's studio to create electronica tunes such as "Hamburger Midnight" and "Drance", inspired by popular DJs from the late 90's. They held several "raves" for their fellow students, creating all the video and lighting effects themselves. Stoup's interest began to fade as the adolescent years pushed on, however, and eventually he was only a part of the group to maintain the meaning of its title. Johnson went on to remix some of the group's favorite beats into background music for rapper "Yotham" and his Ju Jin Kai crew that included "Tommy Dove" and "Eduardo" among others. Popular songs were "Street Life" and "Beef". Johnson is still pursuing a music career today while Stoup has set his sights on the film world.

3. Double Helix is also a dubstep band from Scotland

DOUBLE HELIX distill dubstep, punk energy and spoken word into a strange brew of near-future dancefloor music.

They make beats for robots to make love to, for humans to skank to. They speak words designed to reprogram your synaptic pathways, and upgrade your neural wetware.

Created in a top secret lab as an experimental electronic entity, designed to explore the outer realms and inner spaces of programmed musical glyphs and mammalian word secretion, they recently escaped their cages to record their new album, FUTURE PROOF.

Spiralling from the reptilian hindbrain to the farthest reaches of outer space, the album mutates dubstep and electronica, exploring the imminent future of the human race.

Double Helix have featured on 1FM's One World show, and been played repeatedly by Mary Ann Hobbes’ Radio 1 Experimental Show. They have also received airplay from Vic Galloway on Radio 1. Double Helix have previous releases on their own ‘Audiodacity’ label, Crystal Distortion’s ‘Labrat Audiochemicals’ and Skream Club’s ‘Crunk’s Not Dead’.

‘Future Proof’ was available as a free download in August 2008, due to a pleasantly surprisingly incredible reaction it is now for sale in cd form, with an extra track, from many outlets including www.nu-urbanmusic.com
and juno - http://www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/331926-01.html

4. The two forces combing into one solid chain, The Double Helix. Comprised of The Grand Architect and Ill-a-str8d. The Double Helix has united to bring you a perfectly balanced blend of in depth lyricism and all original beat production guaranteed to leave any Hip Hop head satisfied. Tracks Like "Going On Tour" feat. Main Flow and "So Smooth" feat. J Sands is a small sample of what the duo is capable of. Their individual endeavors span from The Grand Architect recording at The Temple with B Real to Ill-a-str8d producing for Mac Lethal from Rhymesayers. Either way Double Helix is the team with the formula and is using it to generate a whole new way to listen to Hip Hop.

5. Florian Leitner aka Double Helix is an upcoming drum&bass producer from Klagenfurt, Austria. His passion for the boundless, mystical worlds of sound has driven him into a journey full of layers and diversity. Countless hours of seeking the core of perfection in each sound pushed him deeper into the art of forming electric energy into music. The Quest is on.

6. Luis Flores and Jorge HM are two electronica producers in Guadalajara, Mexico. They have influenced many generations since 90's mainly through Nopal Beat Records.
