Powered by Audioscrobbler™Chandra Oppenheim is the daughter of American conceptual artist Dennis Oppenheim who was well acquainted with the artists and musicians of the late 70's Lower East Side. Her father’s students Eugene Diserio & Steven Alexander, were already active in the new wave scene as The Dance (From the ashes of The Model Citizens) and Chandra joined the band as the vocalist at the age of 10. When she turned 12, She recorded her first EP under her name, with The Dance in 1980.

Chandra became an 'It Girl' of the new wave scene for her active participation and immediately became a teenage underground icon of the 80s. She did a memorable duet with John Cale and a guest performance with Algebra Suicide. She was the youngest to be featured by Andy Warhol in his magazine, Interview and then came her article by Isabella Blow for Vogue magazine.

Chandra is currently a member of the board of directors at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
