Cannonball Statman

Powered by Audioscrobbler™A native of Brooklyn, NY, Cannonball Statman performs heavy, fast-paced music, with wild on-stage antics and frequent shifts in time and melody, layered over the dense, droney chug of an acoustic guitar tuned like a demented sitar. His lyrics cover themes such as urban life, the animal kingdom, government corruption, mental illness, and the forthcoming apocalypse, often combining dark, provocative material with surreal imagery and occasional bursts of humor.

In December 2013, Statman went on his first USA tour, accompanied by the release of "Dogs vs. Cats," a split EP with fellow NYC-based artist Phoebe Novak. He released his debut album "Icepick" the following Spring, followed by another tour that Summer, with The Grasping Straws. He continues touring, recording, and performing around NYC, while drumming in rock and roll supertrio The Dick Jokes, and organizing live events around the NYC Antifolk scene. "Shriekofafreak!", the follow-up to "Icepick", is slated for release in Summer 2015.

"The music delivers the acoustic punk attack of antifolk by way of black metal; it’s not unusual for a typical 5-minute song to run the BPM gamut and contain several distinct sections. Lyrically, he embraces smorgasbord surrealism, but the songs always resonate and the audience is never distanced from the youthful anxieties and aspiration that fuel his fervor." (The Deli Magazine)
