Biography & Career

Early Years
He began in the pre‑punk/dance‑punk band Test Icicles (2004–2006), then recorded two orchestral/folk‑pop albums as Lightspeed Champion (2007–2009).

Transition to Blood Orange
Adopted the name Blood Orange in 2011 with the debut album Coastal Grooves, followed by Cupid Deluxe[/ablum] (2013), Freetown Sound (2016), Negro Swan (2018) and the mixtape Angel's Pulse (2019).

Compositions & Scores
He also composes for film/theater: the 2013 film Palo Alto, Broadway’s Job (2024), Paul Schrader’s Master Gardener (2023), Queen & Slim score (2020), and We Are Who We Are amongst others.



Style & Themes

Blood Orange is recognized for genre‑defying music: merging indie‑pop, funk, alternative R\&B, electronic, jazz, synth‑pop and more . His lyrical themes frequently explore identity, gender fluidity, race, marginalization, vulnerability, trauma and self‑acceptance.


Collaborations & Production

He has written/produced for major artists: Solange, Carly Rae Jepsen, Sky Ferreira, FKA Twigs, Mariah Carey, Blondie, among others.

He has performed alongside Philip Glass, and scored classical compositions such as Fields, earning Grammy nominations.


Recent Activity (2023–2025)

In June 2025 released ''The Field'', his first new single in 3 years, featuring Caroline Polachek, Daniel Caesar & others; also directed its video.
Scored Master Gardener (2023) and Broadway's Job (2024)
Collaborated with Lorde, contributed to her upcoming album, and will support her on tour (Autumn 2025) .
Worked with Turnstile on Never Enough album.
