Birdland

Powered by Audioscrobbler™There are three bands named Birdland:

1) Birdland was an English rock band active between 1988 and 1993.

Birdland were formed in 1988 by the brothers Robert Vincent and Lee Vincent, who had previously released records and toured in glam rock band Zodiac Motel, supplemented by Simon (Syd) Rodgers and Neil Hughes.

Birdland's debut single "Hollow Heart", was released on Lazy Records. The single generated hype in the British music press, due partly to their live shows but also to their striking cartoonish 'four peroxide blondes' image.

The band released three further well received singles, "Paradise", "Sleep With Me" (which reached the Top 40 ensuring the video was shown on Top of the Pops) and a cover of Patti Smith's "Rock N Roll Nigger".

It was two years after the first single, that the band finally released their eponymously titled debut album in 1991, but the release disappointed many fans.

Following the album's release, legal problems with an earlier manager caused the band to disappear from sight. They returned in 1993, with two new members to play a low key tour of pubs and clubs, but despite many new and unreleased tracks being previewed, the band split shortly after the tour.

2) Birdland was a Yugoslavian jazz fusion band that released three albums in the 1980s:

Darkness of Light (1980)
History of Love and Belief (1981)
In a Temple of Silence (1982)

3) Birdland were a band from Baltimore around 2003 who changed their name to Celebration shortly after. The band consisted of Katrina Ford(vocals) and Sean Antanaitis(drum machine, sequencers, keys, guitar). These two were also in bands such as Jaks as well as Love Life previously. Their sound stayed consistent over the years from band to band to that of Birthday Party, Jesus Lizard and The Bad Seeds although Birdland had more of a cabaret feel; dark, spacious, etc. You can find their current releases under the name Celebration on 4AD Records. You may recognize Katrina's vocals on TV On The Radio's"Staring At The Sun."
