Ali Birra   September 29, 1947 (1950?) - November 6, 2022 Ethiopian [a6077619] singer, composer, poet, and nationalist. Born Ali Mohammed Musa in Ganda Kore, Dire Dawa, he began his musical career at age 13 when he joined the Afran Qallo Cultural Group, which promoted and performed Oromo music. His stage name "Birra" originated from his performance of the song "Birra Da Bari'e" or "Spring Has Dawned," one of the first Oromo songs widely performed. When the Afran Qallo group was banned by the government, he relocated to Addis Ababa, where he established himself as a versatile singer capable of performing in Oromo, Amharic, Somali, Arabic, and Afar.
