Underdog is a Ska Punk group based in Beijing, China, formed in November 2016 by three experienced musicians, Cha Cha, Ma Jiliang and Guan Zheng. Punk is the foundation of the band's music. The elements of Surf, country, blues, Rockabilly, psychedelic, Rggae, Ska and so on are hidden in the band, which gives a great impact force to audiences. The catchy all-Chinese lyrics are another, a mix of cynical outspokenness and a near-middle-aged look back on life -- and underdog' ambitions are far more than that. The band first showed up in the Punk music festival in 2017, and later signed with Ruby Eyes Music Label.
At the beginning of 2018, they released their self-titled debut album Wounded Dog. The second album, Voice of the Devil, was released on August 25, 2020. The guitarist/singer Chacha good at harmonica, banjo, slide bar guitars and other instruments, which makes the songs are not constrained by Ska Punk, but a combination of surf music, folk music, Dub, Rock Billy and others. On their 2018 debut EP, they show off their love and anger, pride and ridicule, and their brilliant ability of music arrangement. The eight songs of the new album Devil's Voice reflect the mature creative skills and caring spiritual pursuit of the Underdog.
