| Leo Gilbert - January 2020 Two shows from Leo this month. This is because, despite planning to use his first show of 2020 to look back at the delights that came his way throughout 2019 – replaying some of his favourites and airing some of the tracks that were squeezed out as he made painful editing decisions – Leo found himself unable to resist the slew of new music that landed in his virtual inbox in the last month or two of the year. In the first show - a major late-year discovery for Leo (probably years after everybody else) was Danish group Efterklang, and he just had to start his show with a track from their new EP "Lyset", a companion piece to the recent album, "Altid Sammen". Syrian artist Omar Souleyman also features, with a track from his new album "Shlon", and broody new tunes from Daniel Knox and Sarah Mary Chadwick are particular highlights. There are also two versions of a new song by Seb Rochford's Pulled By Magnets and Max Richter appears twice with a pair from his soundtrack to the film Ad Astra. There is also a slew of fabulous music from around the world: Corridor from Montreal, Yamaneko from Japan and Makoto Holmberg from Italy. Closer to UK home, Leo has Zonae, Low End Activist, slowthai and dgoHn. And there is so much more besides, crammed into 120 minutes. The second of Leo's two two-hour shows for January continues the Chinese theme of his December show, with two tunes from China, one by Beijing-based Gong Gong and the other by the hard-to-trace Yao Shisan from the Guizhou Province. He also has his first tune from Northern Uganda in the form of Rwot Moo, another from Danish new-favourites Efterklang and a couple from New Zealand in the form of Sarah Mary Chadwick and Nadia Reid. Intriguing collaborations come courtesy of Elizabeth Fraser, ex of the Cocteau Twins, guesting on a new Sam Lee single, Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood working with cellist Oliver Coates on a fascinating eleven-minute track and Flaming Lips combining with Deap Valley to make Hope Hell High. Also up is a debut tune from techno stalwart Benjamin Damage recording as BDB, Tygapaw's contribution to a Brooklyn compilation, Holy Fuck's continuing return to form, Samo DJ, Karel and a fourth track from Daniel Knox's wonderful recent EP. | Mark Cunliffe - January 2020 New year and yet more to look forward to. When you look beyond the commonplace there is a wealth of talent bubbling away. What of January then? Habibi have a new track out ahead of their album release in February and one of my favourites, Onipa have some new material out and it's banging as always. The enigmatic Sleeparchive released and unreleased a banger and then promptly put it back in it's box. Fortunately I grabbed it before it disappeared again. My old mates, Seas Of Mirth are back with a new album that got physical from a kickstarter and I'm playing a track off it. | Sean Hocking - January 2020 I do enjoy putting together a beginning of the year show as it allows me to play you some of the tracks that may have not made the cut on previous shows over the past year and also feature oldies that are new to me and I hope, to you also. That said, this show starts with a great collaboration between the mighty Jason Williamson and the International Teachers of Pop, a rather domestic little number about a pair of plimsols. Nice just to hear the word plimsols these days rather than the bog standard sneakers or trainers reference. Sunny Sydney Christmas turned into a satanic like dystopian smoke engulfed nightmare this year and we document this in the show with our namesake song by Johnny Cash, Arthur Brown's Fire and the classic Australian heat song, "Too Hot to Move" by The Triffids. Unfortunately the only people who haven't been moving in the heat are the politicians, many others have had to as the choice has been lose you home or life. At the time this show was recorded over 800 homes have been destroyed and the fire season only officially started a few weeks back. The fires have been so awful that they have killed entire Koala populations putting this little bear close to extinction, this year our xmas money went to https://www.fnpw.org.au/ Our favourites of 2019 that missed shows the first time round include Rian Treanor's track, "Good News". Really looking forward to new music by this producer in 2020. He might not be so in your face as the might Giant Swan but that same sense of dread disgust and anger are to be found in his compositions and they'll sit perfectly in the year coming where we'll all have to suffer the next US presidential election, we've left the last song of the show as a reminder of that particular fact. Also included are songs from newbies Meagher Benefits, The Soft Walls, Mush & Autarkic. We hope to hear more from them this year On the slightly crazed side we've included a DJ Bus Replacement favourite by Michael Forshaw, 'I Love Horses'. Also a Hindi version of Donna Summer's , "Love to Love You Baby", The Fall covering a Sun Records Gem , "F-oldin Money $" and Klaus Blatter's "(I Find Myself Surrounded By) The Lunatics of Acid House" in which he manages a couplet rhyming house and spouse!
