Gareth Jones - December 2017 After spending a few years working in retail, hearing the same Christmas hits compilation CD played on a loop every hour, I thought surely there must be more to life than Wizzard and Wham?? And sure enough, there was. Pretty soon I discovered a whole world of alternative Christmas songs and I've amassed thousands since I began collecting them in the 90s. Here are just a handful of some of the more recent offerings over the next hour. There are new singles from Glasgow's kandy (cane) pop kids Bis and shoegaze beauty from Florida's Seafang. For the Scrooges and Grinches amongst you, there are Chrimbo songs from Mark Ebenezer Smith aka The Fall and even a little sampling of Macca's 'Wonderful Christmastime' turned into a pi**ed off rap courtesy of Devon MC and DJ Pandamonium. I'm also rather shamelessly plugging the Cherryade Records compilation 'A Very Cherry Christmas Vol.12' which I helped to compile!

Mark Whitby - December 2017 Hard to think of a better way to end 2017 than with a new session from Postcode, so that's exactly what we've done. Indeed, they're one of three artists from the Isle of Man in the show this month, along with Slow Decay and Isvisible Isinvisible, aka Simon, formerly of the legendary Chasms. Having not found a compilation sufficiently to our liking to feature it in November, somewhat inevitably we've been bombarded with them this month, so we're featuring tracks from a whole load of them. These include the CAB Benefit comp. 'A Better World For All' which features, among other things, a contribution from Cuban Boys, something from the excellent new Soul Jazz Studio One retrospective, yet another wonderful Bearsuit collection and the 'Lessons' comp. from the Front & Follow label. Featured compilation status, though, goes to the extraordinary '80s Underground Cassette Culture' album put out by Contort Yourself. This being the month of this year's Festive Fifty's first broadcast, we Peel Back... thirty years to the somewhat maligned chart of 1987 and, this being the month of Christmas, we sort through some fabulous early seasonal releases to end the show with a clutch of Xmas choons from, among others, Moogieman, Thingmaker and Sir Robert Orange Peel.

Pete Jackson - December 2017 Festive treats a-plenty this month, not least of which is the explosive debut session from the sound of 2017, dreamherbs. If they don't manage to melt your ears, then Plastic Crimewave Syndicate, Meat Parade and Zong will have a go at it. Other treats on offer include new tunes from Istanbul Hippodrome, old tunes from the Mambo Jukebox, contrasting sounds from contemporary Japan courtesy of Gutaro Kyo and Saicobab, and amazing electronic noises from Isvisible and Cathode Ray Tube. Plus, discover The Smiths' hastily-abaondoned jazz experiment, the sounds of 70s Camaroon and a slice of pretty heavy live 60s action from The Pretty Things.

Sean Hocking - December 2017 Back again, for the last time this year. We seem to be chock-a-block with Australians this month. New music from Peter Bibby, Tasmania's Emlyn Johnson, the Kitchen People from Perth and what's turning out to be one of my favourite tracks of the year, Rage by Orlando Furious. That's just to name a few of them. On the discovery front it has to be 90's New Yorker, Charles Douglas. Maybe I'm behind the times but his songs are a revelation. William Shatner is always great for a cover and we don't disappoint you this time round with a sublime version of the Cramps, Garbageman. Lots more, to boot, but I don't want to give it all away. Thanks for listening in 2017, it's been a great year for music according to the Ring of Fire canon ... listen to my other show this month for my selection from them.

Thomas Blatchford - December 2017 Thomas has been allowed back for another go on Dandelion and is still getting the hang of things, including speaking properly while the pollen count rises outside. In what rock critics would term a "sophomore effort" (but the rest of us would just call his "second show") Thomas plays an armful of local acts (hello there Habits, Wet Lips, Two Steps On The Water, Pillow Pro and company), while also catching up with some cracking releases from 2017, even though it's too late to vote for them in the Festive Fifty. Also, despite his distinct lack of festive cheer, there's a couple of Christmassy baubles that get a spin too. Talking on the phone is not my speed, don't send me no letter 'cos I can't read, but you can always contact the show via email to thomas@dandelionradio.com xx
