Andrew Morrison - July 2020 Andy is still working from home whilst the Coronavirus lockdown eases here in the UK, but has been getting out and about on several cycle rides in recent weeks. This has given him ample time to continue consuming lots of great new music, of which a fine two-hour selection is featured in this July show. You'll hear tunes from I Break Horses, Lorelle Meets The Obsolete, Bicep, Bdrmm, Victories At Sea and Tompaul, as well as former session guests Rival Consoles, Vacuum Spasm Babies and Epic45. There's also another colossal live track taken from Arab Strap's recently released digital archive series.

Gareth Jones - July 2020 In an effort to enter the "new normal", Gareth's July show is a very normal affair, with none of his usual fancy musical features or special guest stars. It's just two hours of brand new releases. July may see many lockdown measures being lifted, but that hasn't stopped Gareth from bringing you more Covid-related new songs including Beans On Toast and Jeffrey Lewis, plus quarantine and lockdown tunes from Lady Leshurr and The Neville Staple Band. We also continue to show our support to the doctors and nurses with new NHS anthems from Gavin Osborn and KILLdren. And Gareth salutes the 'Black Lives Matter' movement with BLM songs from Dwayne Tryumf and Mesha Dyer. Many bands are releasing lathe cut vinyl at the moment, including electro duo Analogue Electronic Whatever and Swansea band The Rusty Nutz whose new single clocks in at just 10 seconds long!! Or there's multi-format madness from Sparks who release their new album 'A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip' with three vinyl versions, two CD versions and even the humble cassette! In short, Gareth's July show is two hours of top brand new tracks, plus one classic oldie by Frank Sidebottom as a tribute to the late Chris Sievey who passed away 10 years ago last month on 21st June. He died in Timperley, so presumably he was also 'Born In Timperley'?

Leo Gilbert - July 2020 Three hours of wonderfulness from Leo this month. Tunes from (almost) every single continent on the globe, most of which have been released over the past couple of months. 34 bands, 20 of whom Leo has never played before! How's that for new? Relative old hands are Mark Lanegan (the only artist with two tunes in the show), Dominik Eulberg, Rival Consoles, Amnesia Scanner and Max Cooper. In with the uninitiated are (among many others) Holodec, Meth Math, Photay, Archie + Lyn, Powell, Dijit and Eartheater. Music goes along the tunnel, up the M62, moving heat, takes in street scenes, takes a stand for love, heads below the clavicle for movement 6, heads inwards for the foetus of a love song, sees the nightmare at Yoyogi Park, a band, dark blue plastic fantasies and asks is it right. What can it all mean? Listen in and all will be revealed...

Mark Cunliffe - July 2020 So, 2020 is not really relenting much in terms of rubbishness. We plough on, though, with the standard of music still of a surprisingly high quality. Actually, it's not really that surprising is it? Creativity can often come out of adversity. So, what am I sharing with you from July? Cold Meat have an album out and it's a bit good. JJ Lacey is showing his versatility with a drum and bass banger and Billy Nomates is back with another cut off her forthcoming album. I've gone Gringo Records crazy with four different Gringo bands on this months show. Loose Fit are back with another great slab of post punk and we have Kirk Barley with an intriguing number. There is a featured album this month and it's by a fabulous artist called NNAMDÏ

Rocker - July 2020 Two hours from Rocker this month, bringing you new music from the likes of The Nightingales; The Drain On The Balcony; The William Loveday Intention; Cult Figures; Milky Wimpshake; Steven Adams & The French Drops; Lisa Bouvier; Pauline Murray; Killdren; The Total Rejection; Mekons; The Flatmates; Boyracer; Jetstream Pony and Bob Mould. There's a track by Sissy Space Echo & The Invisible Collaborators from an excellent new compilation from Next Phase : Normal Records, and a debut release from The Rellies - a new band from Sydney who are all under 14 years old. There's electronica from Aalson and Jonathan Kaspar; there's also political commentary from Beans On Toast; Paul D Jones; Erin Bardwell; Captain Ska and Public Enemy. This month's Educating Elizabeth record is a new release from Thee Sacred Souls while this month's Rocker's Shellac Attack is a 1954 recording by The Original Gospel Harmonettes. As well as little known acts, here's a little known fact: Wade In The Water, like many spirituals descended from the songs of enslaved Africans, includes coded messages - in this case the apparent reference to coming closer to the lord through baptism, is actually sage advice for avoiding the bloodhounds of those trying to recapture escapees.

Sean Hocking - July 2020 A few more oldies than usual in this show as recent events just keep bringing songs to mind. We have in our monthly 4 hour outing The Last Poets, Lee Scratch Perry and even Ringo Starr who is far more up to date with 2020 events than he ever would have thought when he released the song of his that we feature in this show! Newbies from York/Halifax duo Salem Trials, Guts Club, Capital K, Body Copy, Macula Copy, The Legless Crabs and many other previously unknown and unheard types. We've also got new outings from IDLES and Fontaines D.C.; usually by this stage in the game we'd not bother with bands we've been playing for the last couple of years but both defy the odds and sound as fresh as the first time they released recorded music and especially so IDLES who, let's be honest are currently one of the finest bands on the planet. Also something now from Peckham's Mr Mitch ( he is the man behind one of our favourite labels of the last decade, Gobstopper records) and US artist Frank Hurricane who we've played a couple of times on previous shows. Love for this man's music has turned into a bit of an obsession so I hope you enjoy a couple of things I have pulled from his back catalogue. We lost the key member of the Sweet last month, Steve Priest and, as a top of the popper kid in shorts of the early 70s, I just had to pay homage of sorts to the man and his band. Talking of the 70s, Sparks are back with yet another great off kilter English pop song. How they do it year in year out is a mystery and a mystery I'm happy to live with. Last but not least, Artificial Intelligence and the creation of music / songs / tracks. Is AI the new punk, the new electronica. Who knows? I hope those of you who listen either love it or hate it just as listeners did when Peel first played punk, happy hardcore or Extreme Noise Terror. AI is part of the future of music creation and songwriting and I expect it to be creatively deployed to appeal to humans first and maybe down the line we biological beings may not be allowed into robots-discos to hear the latest machine hit.! Listen to the strange and prescient "Abbus"...

Thomas Blatchford - July 2020 This month's Thomas show is coming direct to you from one of Melbourne's new Covid hotspots, on the cusp of a new wave, which sounds more chic than it is. And less terrifying. Mopero certainly has something to say about that, but another rather topical theme also keeps popping up in recent singles from Terrace Martin, YG, Barkaa and Hanger Management. See if you can guess what it is. We have a few tasters from anticipated albums (including Beans, Special Interest, Gordon Koang, 700 Bliss, etc.) and one minor hit from a band that's already split up (about cutting your own hair in quarantine). Two of the songs in the show mention onions. And did you know The Shaggs were on Bandcamp? Hard not to be these days.
