Powered by Audioscrobbler™Yva Las Vegass was born in Puerto La Cruz Venezuela on December 17th 1963. starts singing and playing cuatro ( venezuelan instrument) at the age of 5. In high school after playing folkloric music in elementary school, starts her first rock band with some friends. For her senior year she went to school in U.S where she stays after. At 18, she moves to Seattle where she immediately starts playing music on the streets honing her guitar and cuatro skills. In the 80's she forms Dos Mundos with Deanna Chapman, later renamed Tres Mundos with the addition of Christine Gunn in the Cello. In Seattle Yva sang in Bochinche the only salsa band in the city at the time. Together with her band mates from Tres Mundos she formed Delusions of Grandeour a fusion of pop, folk,punk and rock where they played original tunes. in the early 90's she joins the Florists,a funk rock band as the vocalist and guitar player.All the while she continued performing and writing venezuelan folkloric songs on her own.
On May 16 1994 she meets Krist Novoselic at his birthday party. Soon after that They form Sweet 75. They made a record and tour the U.S and parts of Europe. Due to personal differences the band brakes up while making a second record.
Among the bands that she played with are: The Stinky Punk Bitches, My aunt Cuca and The Children of The Revolution.During her las years in Seattle Yva went solo and recorded for Arta records I'm a Folk Singer, a collection of traditional Venezuelan songs. In 2007 after traveling for 8 months she relocates to Brooklyn, where she continues playing.In 2010 she signs with Moniker Records, her new record "I was born in a place of sunshine and the smell of ripe mangoes" released march 13th of 2012 one of the 25 best albums of the year according to NPR. Yva currently lives in NYC with her rat terrier Moonie Las Vegass
