Famous female face from british rock and unmistakable icon of the original punk scene, Soo "Catwoman" Lucas was an early Sex Pistols devotee along with the so-called "Bromley Contingent" elite of punks. Called the female version of Johnny Rotten, she was also a punk rock style guru in her own right with her handmade clothes and accessories, make up and her original "Catwoman" haircut which was cut for her in a barbers shop in Ealing, London, in 1976. A very influential figure, and funnily enough pretty shy, she disappeared from the punk scene as soon as the Pistols imploded. She only released a punk single called Backstabbers, and later would join new wave band The Invaders as a vocalist for their sole album "Test Card", and a single in 1980. After that she would settled down to live her private life as a mother, and nowadays as a kind of life-aged prophetess.
Her rebel statement was not one made of aggression or profane violence, but a silent, visual one for artistic creativity, personal freedom and individual expression. Her iconic personal style is still nowadays a huge inspiration for punk art and fashion styling, appearing everywhere, used by people back in the punk explosion era, and has since endured captivating, enchanting and inspiring the new generations, while others have only faded away. Soo’s image was exploited by those trying to market their own products, even claiming her inventions as their own, but the only thing that she wanted to was to live in silent dignity.
