Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon, better known as her stage name Doechii (formerly stylized as iamdoechii) was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. Doechii started out as a YouTuber, starting by posting a variety of videos, including vlogs and even some music. She released her first single in 2018 titled "Girls" and after the success of the first song decided to release the single "Spookie Coochie" in 2019. Some months after the release of those songs, Doechii's Coven Music Session, Vol. 1 compilation was released. It consisted mostly of previously made short songs that had been uploaded to her YouTube channel.

In November 2020, Doechii released her EP "Oh The Places You'll Go", which included her breakout hit song "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" which went viral on Tik Tok. After some weeks, Doechii decided to release the follow-up single titled "What's your name?". In 2021 she released her "mini-tape" Bra-Less, which included an updated version of her 2018 single, "Girls".

In 2022, she was announced as part of the XXL magazine freshman class.

In February 2025, she won the Grammy for Best Rap Album with her album "ALLIGATOR BITES NEVER HEAL".
