C Powers

C PowersData provided by DiscogsAmerican electronic musician & DJ aka Ms Mix, currently residing in Portland, USA. Grew up in the 1990s. Her sound is informed by years spent collecting breaks and Drum & Bass records in Atlanta and Chicago, honing crowd control skills in the foggy clubs of London, helping foster queer spaces for dancing in Savannah (Georgia), and solidarity dance nights in Portland (Oregon).

Cecilia's sets and releases combine elements of gay camp, anti-sophistication, extended turntable technique, and a sense of juxtaposition molded by a DJ career that has strayed from the traditional "club" spaces. She has been heavily active in anti-displacement organizing. When she moved to LA in 2019, she joined the Los Angeles Tenants Union, helping working class and undocumented families organize against unethical landlords and gentrification in North Hollywood. Upon moving to Portland a year later, she became a co-founding member of Don’t Evict Portland, a tenant-lead organization that is working to build tenant power and delay, reduce, or eliminate the harm and violence of evictions. Cecilia has explored bringing music into the organizing space and weaponizing audio for disruption. In turn, this work is informing her audio production, bringing the theme and energy of collective action into her music production and collaborations.
