Alvie Self was born in Cottonwood, Arizona .He grew Up In Verde Valley In his youth he worked in Rodeo, and also as a Heavy-Equipment Operator. At first he played Accordion , then took up guitar playing with a solid-body Les Paul guitar and used a Magnatone Amp. His first recording on the FORD label was ,(Ford 1015) "Rain Dance", next his very popular "Nancy" backed by "Let's Go Wild" now rare and highly regarded by serious record collectors .On some of his early recordings he was accompanied by Duane Eddy's drummer also by Al Casey on piano.

A versatile and excellent guitar player he still plays to visitors from all over North America and Europe at the M-Diamond Ranch (near Sedona, Arizona. He was recently inducted into The Western Swing Music Association Hall of Fame and is an honoured member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame¨.
“People just don't grow up thinking they will be inducted into a Hall of Fame.” Alvie said modestly."I just wanted to do something I enjoyed, people encouraged me, so I decided to keep on truckin'."He formed his own band, played shows in Flagstaff and Prescott, with Country Fire, Bob Cox and the Alibis, and the late Buddy Long,( bass player for Waylon Jennings.) He has written more than 100 songs at last count.

Robert “Bob” Morritt, author of "Rockin' in the Desert,(amazon -5 Star rated)" first met Self at the Palace in Prescott. "I am proud to say I have known Alvie since 1961," Morritt says who was backed by Alvie and his Band at the ‘Palace ‘ on Whiskey Row in Prescott,Arizona in may 1961. "Alvie is still an excellent guitar player."
