Gareth Jones - August 2019
It's almost inevitable that August will be a month of rain, because I've decided to make my August show a bit of a Summer Special! There's Summer classics from The Undertones and The Barracudas, new Summer songs including Nick Pride & The Pimptones and Charmpit plus some Summer cover versions with The Jesus and Mary Chain taking on the Beach Boys and Frank Sidebottom being Mungo Jerry and Eddie Cochran!
'Secret Songs from the Sixties' features two crazy cuts from a groovy new compilation on Born Bad Records called 'Voulez-Vous Cha-Cha? - French Cha-Cha 1960-1964'. And current French band Juniore are back with a brand new track on a compilation CD called 'Shenanigans', to celebrate the 1st birthday of their UK label Outre Disque. C'est tres bon!
And we say g'day to three bands from Melbourne, Australia, with new tracks by Terry and Tek Tek Ensemble plus in the 2nd hour of the show I'll be joined by The Stroppies who introduce 4 songs of their choice for the feature 'Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue'.

Leo Gilbert - August 2019
Two compact hours of wonderfulness from me this month, with almost everything being the newest of new. So many new tunes by bands who are new to me, like black midi, Raw Ambassador, Weval and the splendidly named Carnivorous Plant Society.
Blossoming talents such as Sarathy Korwar, Anna Meredith, Lost Under Heaven and Mondkopf feature not for the first time.
I have also given way to the charms of a couple of remixes by Low and Jon Hopkins, alongside new tunes from well-established artists Amadou and Mariam and Darren Hayman.
Listen in to discover that everything in August truly is awesome.

Mark Cunliffe - August 2019
So, having said I'm too busy to sustain 3 hour shows, I can now confirm that I'm full of s**t as this August's show is 3 hours. I'm like a UK politician changing their Brexit stance every five minutes ...
Some of the 3 hours is covered with Shy FX being his usual consistent self and Waray mixing it up with some moombahton. There is more from Snow Ghosts and Jack Acid and Christian Fitness.
There's new artists like DRS, Voon, Atomic Fog and DJ Bacon.
There is also a featured album from the ever fabulous Grey Hairs.

Mark Whitby - August 2019
As usual, this month's show looks in on the annual extravaganza of fun and mud that is the Green Man Festival at Glanusk Park, Wales. We'll be featuring a number of the potential highlights, from festival veterans such as James Yorkston to debutants like The Liminanas and Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs and of course the mighty Idles.
Away from the festival, we find a whole load of cracking new and recent releases, including new singles from Dead Bambies and Dragon Welding, another track from the new Blanck Mass album and something from the excellent new Frog LP.
In the retrospective corner, our Peel Back... section has tracks from three Peel legends taking the stage at Green Man and our featured compilation this month comes from Iron Mountain Analog Research with a bunch of old hillbilly recordings culled from the Columbia vaults.

Rocker - August 2019
This month's three hour show includes tracks from a featured album - The 2019 Indietracks Festival compilation - as well as new tracks from The Wedding Present; Personal Best; Blue Jeans; Fresh; Suspect Parts; Ramona; Helen McCookerybook; Arrest! Charlie Tipper; Broken Arrows; Lonely Tourist; The Popguns; The Total Rejection; Fever Dream; The Proctors; CTMF; The Stroppies; Mighty Mighty; Mick Trouble; The Reverend Jonny Kinkaid & His Imaginary Nowhere Band and Magnapop
There's new electronica from Erick Morillo; Four Tet; Locked Groove remixed by Alan Fitzpatrick; Petar Dundov and FSW remixed by Microtrauma.
This month's Educating Elizabeth record is a soulful 2019 release on Timmion Records; while this month's Rocker's Shellac Attack is a song which has become a soul standard, however this release predated Otis Redding's success by over thirty years!
As well as little known acts, here's a little known fact: Jarvis was prescient.

Sean Hocking - August 2019
There are two shows from Sean this month.
We start this show with a track off the latest album by US artist Kishi Bashi (http://www.kishibashi.com/#shows-1). He has actually been around for a number of years but this new album Omoiyari is his stand out work so far. Hope you enjoy the two tracks we feature from him on the show. The other artist(s) or should I say production team that has been spinning all month is, Equiknox, we did feature a track by them on a show last year, their latest release, Brooklyn hits the spot here at Ring of Fire.
More hip hop influenced tunes on the show than usual this month with Injury Reserve, epic beard men and Jpegmafia featuring.
Remember Devendra Banhart? We do, he's got a new album out that makes slightly nostalgic for the noughties hipster, hippy vibe!
To celebrate 50 years since the moon landing last month we have Woog Riots singing, "We Are Not Houston". Plus lots of other strange things like The Animals singing, "A Girl Called Sandoz", Scottish garage band Les Bof! who only sing in French, another tune off the debut by Hygiene a bunch of Canadians marooned in London and writing songs about UK life that hit the spot.
The other show is a celbration of somewhere that we spend our a lot of our lives in, they take a large chunk of our disposable cash, we love them, we hate them. There are two hours of songs that in one way or another reference a major part of our daily existence. After some research and then deciding which were actually good songs to feature, I can make a couple of overarching statements.
The supermarket featured a great deal in the imagination of punk and new wave culture of the late seventies and early eighties, nowadays songs almost mention them in passing and the few that talk about the directly one have one thing on their mind, stealing from them!

I'm sure there's an academic dissertation in there but we'll leave that to the professor of music from some such institution like the University of Uppsala to write that. Ring of Fire's favourite supermarket song of all time has to be African Boy's "One Day I Went To LIDL".
Enjoy this one and listen out for the other regular show.

Thomas Blatchford - August 2019
Thomas presents an august August show for Dandelion which has one particular line from Stormzy's single "Vossi Bop" on its mind, you know the one.
It's a show that seems to have forthcoming albums on its mind too, with first and second tasters from imminent longplayers in abundance (looking at you Waterfall Person, Loraine James, Pillow Pro, Yatta).
There's also a recording from Glastonbury, a song sung in a made-up computer game language, one solid gold hit played backwards, a guitar mangled by someone called Filth Bucket, a ballad about Birmingham, and plenty more besides.
Don't you dare close your ears!

Trev - August 2019
A bumper 4 hour show this month - with plenty of grime, hip hop, DIY pop, Doom Metal and ambient noise from artists as diverse as Lady Lykez, Dreadnought, Coachwhips, Slowthai, Slomatics, Cix, Mean Jeans and a whole heap more.
I've also found time to squeeze in a great 'shop corner' double from Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone.
As always it's been a pleasure pulling this show together and I hope you find something to enjoy this month.
