Powered by Audioscrobbler™Woodpecker Wooliams was a musical project of British musician Gemma Williams based in Brighton. She produced music as Woodpecker Wooliams from 2009 to 2013, releasing the studio albums Diving Down (2009) and The Bird School of Being Human (2012). The final Woodpecker Wooliams performance was at the End of The Road festival in 2013.

Williams has subsequently been half of the electro-synth-pop duo Becky Becky with Peter J D Mason (ex-Fence Collective)

'A stunning find.’ - SUNDAY TIMES

"Musically and emotionally, it’s belting." – BBC.CO.UK

‘Enchanting solo masterpieces are laced with lo-fi murder folk and droning harps which are more like P J Harvey’s foray into the autoharp than Joanna Newsom’s twee fixations.’ - THE INDEPENDENT

After leaving her midwifery training due to a bought of serious illness in 2009, Williams retreated to the Devonshire countryside to recuperate and taught herself to play a hired harp.

The following few years saw Woodpecker touring all over Europe, The Baltics and Russia, and playing festivals such as The Big Chill, Positivus, and The Alternative Escape as well as releasing a string of cassette and EP releases around the world.

Her offering, 'The Bird School of Being Human', released via Robot Elephant Records in September 2012 caught the attention of critics and led to her being named as The Guardian's 'New Band of The Day', as one of The Independent's 'Ones To Watch'.

Williams has lent guest vocals to Mercury-nominated Ghostpoet's hit single 'Meltdown', which was released on 6th May 2013, and remixed by Squarepusher.

Woodpecker Wooliams performed at several festivals including- Sound Tracks, Wilderness, How The Light Gets In, Supernormal, Serraleves Em Festa, Woolfe Music, End Of The Road and Bestival.
