Poppy and Friends

Powered by Audioscrobbler™Poppy and Friends are a Bristol based acoustic folk project lead by singer/songwriter and guitarist Poppy Pitt. Poppy has a unique voice and song writing style, weaving off kilter tales of urban life put to the sweetest of folk melodies. Poppy's use of simple modern prose, mixed with a folk and country sound, guarantees to get your feet moving, your folk-face smiling, and your heart melting.

Poppy studied at Goldsmiths University where she began singing live at the Easycome Acoustic night in South East London, as well as at Goldsmiths Student Union, it was here she met The Bobby Mac'Gees, who introduced her to the UK Anti-Folk Scene and she started gigging regularly with them in London and Brighton.

Moving back to Bristol after finishing her course she soon became a regular on the local scene, and was spotted by a local label whilst performing one night. Poppy also met Double bass player Zac Gregory in Bristol in January 2009, Zac has fast become a core member of Poppy and Friends, and they put on a great show as a duo, they also play shows with a full band that includes drums and strings.

Poppy released 2 EP's on the label Carrot and Stick and recently released her Debut album "Beautiful to Me" on 12th October. Poppy and Friends have recently supported Darren Hayman (of Hefner) at London's famous 100 Hundred Club and on his September UK tour. They have also supported American singer songwriter 'Simone White' recently in Bristol, and the UK's John Allen in Taunton.

Last year Poppy supported the New York City folk rock group, 'Dufus', with gigs lined up supporting them this year too. Poppy and Friends have also played to large crowds on The Bandstand and Avalon Cafe stages at Glastonbury Festival in 2009 as well as at Indietracks Festival in York, the Summer Anti-Folk Festival In London and The Bristol Festival.

They have just completed a tour of the UK to support the release of their Debut Album “Beautiful To Me” For bookings Please contact us through the website at www.poppyandfriends.com
