Mike Downey  Image from Discogs  Since 1996 Mike Downey has been releasing his pop-sensible musics with the bands Wolfie (Parasol/Kindercore), Mathlete (Blackbean and Placenta) and The National Splits (Blackbean and Placenta/Kittridge). In early 2005 he freed himself from all monikers, began playing under his own name and uprooted himself from his Chicago home and landed in Stockholm, where he currently resides. One part lone wolf croon plus one part drag, drop cut and paste adds up to Mike’s musical focus in recent years and into the future. The transition from bandmate to entity has opened creative doors to say the least. Mike now deals his song writing time with remixing and collaboration projects. And although Mike’s musical past hinges on crafty lyricism, his involvement in the Resplendent/Downey collaboration proved that it pays to take a step back from the poetics and dedicate efforts towards the humming walls of down-sampled synths that have been sputtering like cheap sparklers in his eyes for many, many years.
