Artist Info

Bela

Powered by Audioscrobbler™There is more than one artist with this name:

1) Bela was formed in late 1997 when guitarist/singer-songwriter Jeff Hogan got tired of his "guitar-rock" band Cultural Exhaust, and began to write in a more moody and melancholy style. Soon enough he was in the studio calling upon his friend, and former Rasputina cellist Julia Kent to add her stylings to his new track. The song, "Dark Shadows" came to life. Inspired by one of his favorite childhood shows, Jeff called thereminist Rob Schwimmer to add his skills to the mix. Long-time friend and drummer Fred Pisciotta takes care of the rhythms, and bassist Mauro Felipe rounds out the bottom with the bass guitar.

2) Bela relocated from Iceland to Glasgow in 2005 to pursue a career in art and music. His album was picked up on by a host of independent record labels in Glasgow.

His debut album "Hole and Corner" (2006) contains 11 songs of acoustic music. It is currently available in the UK and Iceland, soon to be released in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Polland and USA. The Icelandic singer-songwriter has been compared to John Martyn, Iron & Wine, Kings Of Convenience and Nick Drake.
